Smoking relapse during the first year after treatment for early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer.

BACKGROUND Non-small-cell lung cancer patients who continue to smoke after cancer diagnosis are more likely to experience disease recurrence, decreased treatment efficacy, and treatment complications. Despite this, many continue to smoke, with estimates ranging from 13% to approximately 60%. METHODS Participants were 154 early-stage, non-small-cell lung cancer patients who had smoked within 3...

Polymorphisms of HIF1A gene are associated with prognosis of early stage non-small-cell lung cancer patients after surgery

Hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF1α) activates the transcription of genes that are involved in angiogenesis and cell survival. Over-expression of HIF1α caused by intratumoral hypoxia and its genetic alterations are associated with increased mortality in several cancer types including non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The aim of this study was to investigate the predictive role of single nucleo...

Does Cisatracurium at a Clinical Dose Attenuate the Immunosuppression after Surgery in Smoking Patients with Non-small Cell Lung Cancer?

immunosuppression is a feature of the postoperative stress response and is associated with anesthesia, blood transfusion, hypothermia, mechanical ventilation, and the patient’s underlying disease1-2. there is a shift from a t helper cell 1 (th1) to a th2 immune response in those patients with non-small cell lung cancer after surgery, which appears to be associated with infections, sepsis, and c...

Surgery for early-stage small cell lung cancer.

Limited-stage small cell lung cancer remains one of the more frustrating malignancies to treat. Current standard of care typically includes platinum-based chemotherapy with thoracic radiation, and although response to therapy is high, most patients will ultimately experience relapse and die of recurrent disease. No high-level data exist supporting surgical resection of early-stage disease; howe...
